Southern Sweet Potato Meat Pie

Serves 4

1 lb / 500 glean ground beef

1 egg, beaten

1 medium onion, chopped

½ green pepper, chopped,

1/3 cup or 75ml dry bread crumbs

salt and pepper

2-1/2 cups or 625 ml mashed cooked sweet potatoes

¼ tsp or 1 ml ground allspice

½ cup or 125 ml grated Cheddar cheese

In a large bowl combine ground beef, egg, onion, green pepper, bread crumbs and salt and pepper to taste. Press into 9-inch (23 cm) pie plate. Bake at 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) for 30 minutes. Drain any excess fat from meat.

In a separate bowl combine sweet potatoes and allspice. Carefully spread on top of meat. Top with cheese and return to oven. Bake an additional 8 to 10 minutes or until heated through and cheese is melted.
